USB Loader GX Setup Guide
This hub collects every installation guide for USB Loader GX v4.0-r1283 (released July 4, 2025) in the order most people need them. Whether you are setting up an original Wii, the vWii inside a Wii U, or a Wii Mini, start here: check the prerequisites below, download the files from the Download page, then follow the one guide that matches your console. Each guide is self-contained, links its own downloads, and flags the safety steps you should not skip.
Before You Begin — Prerequisites
- Homebrew Channel installed on your Wii, vWii, or Wii Mini. Softmodding the console itself is not covered on this site — the community guide at wii.hacks.guide is the authoritative source for that stage.
- Storage: an SD card formatted to FAT32 for Wii and vWii (the Wii Mini has no SD slot and works from USB instead), plus a USB hard drive for game backups — FAT32 with an MBR partition table is the most compatible layout.
- The loader package: USB Loader GX r1283 from the Download page — official GitHub file
usbloadergx_r1283.zip, 11,160,243 bytes. - d2x cIOS v11-beta3 in the build for your console (Wii or vWii — they are different packages; the Mini uses d2xl). The guides below link the correct one for each console.
- A NAND backup before any step that installs a cIOS or a WAD. The guides remind you at the exact point it matters.
cIOS warning — Wii and vWii packages are not interchangeable. The standard d2x package is for original Wii consoles; the vWii inside a Wii U needs the separate vWii package, and installing the Wii build in vWii can brick the vWii environment. The Wii Mini needs d2xl, not standard d2x at all. Every guide below links only the package for its own console — follow the guide for the console in front of you.

Get the Files
All downloads — the loader, both d2x packages, Nintendont, Wii Backup Manager, the forwarder WADs, and YAWM ME — are collected on one page with official sources first and clearly labeled mirrors as backups.
Something Not Working?
Install problems — drives not detected, loaders waiting on a countdown, games not appearing — are collected in the Troubleshooting hub. Check there before reinstalling anything: most setup failures are power, formatting, or folder-structure issues, not broken installs. And if you have not downloaded anything yet, head back to the Download page and start with the official GitHub files.
